Your Group will Love Our 200 One-of-a-Kind Chimneys

A local artist added folk art designs to chimneys of over 200 Greendale homes.

EACH CHIMNEY has a story of its own that means something special to the owner. You’ll hear these stories and meet some of the occupants during our walking tour or a bus tour with guides.

We’re Ready to Greet Groups. We can arrange customized tours to meet your group’s interests, including meals at a choice of restaurants and price levels. We welcome individuals and families, too. We can provide self-tours or arrange narrated walking tours. And we promise this: We’ll make your tour fun!
Or you can “do your own thing” if you’d like…browsing, shopping and dining in 25 charming shops, restaurants and cafes in the Village Center.

You Just Gotta See Greendale!

Chimney Bits. The décor of the chimneys relate to many of Greendale’s “alphabetized streets”. All streets in the “A section” begin with the letter A, etc.  So apricots hang on Apricot Court chimneys…azaleas bloom on Azalea Court chimneys… berries ripen on Berry Court, and naturally, balsam branches on Balsam Court. Other sculptures reflect the homeowners lives and personal experiences.

Two Brewer fans, a couple married at Miller Park, sport a ball and glove logo on their chimney; a film director displays an old camera projector on his; while a woman of faith offers praise with a cross, held by the Hand of God. Whether a lover of country, a beach comber, a bird watcher, or UW grad, each chimney has its own story, and you will discover them on your chimney tour.

Our Historic Downtown Center is lined with over 25 unique shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Many special events are held throughout the year.

Greendale’s history is unique. This planned community is one of only three “Greenbelt Communities” in the United States built by the Franklin Roosevelt Administration in 1936. The goal was to provide much needed jobs and better housing for families. This wonderful Village was designed to look like an English Garden Village and still resembles New England’s Williamsburg.

Come and see our “backward houses”! When you are in town you’ll notice we have backward houses…yes, it’s true! Visit Historic Downtown Greendale and we will point them out to you!
If you visit during the summer months– more than 40,000 flowers are planted annually along the downtown streets, in hanging baskets, in sidewalk beds and storefront window boxes. The scenery’s just as pretty if you come during the Holiday season, when more than 100,000 twinkling lights frame the buildings along the main street. One visitor said, “It looks just like a Norman Rockwell Town!” You’re Going to LOVE Greendale! > MORE
